Visa Information
Japan Visa Basics
1. A visa is a pre-entry authorisation that allows travellers to visit Japan for tourism, business, conferences, or other approved purposes.
Possessing a visa does not guarantee entry into Japan. Final permission to enter the country is granted by immigration officers at the port of entry.
2. Visa requirements depend on your nationality.
Citizens of several countries and regions may enter Japan visa-free for short-term stays (generally up to 90 days) for tourism, business meetings, and conference participation.
3. Japan also offers eVisa facilities for eligible nationalities.
The availability of eVisas and application procedures vary depending on the applicant’s country of residence and nationality.
Visa Exemptions and Short term Entry
Many passport holders from countries across Europe, North America, Asia-Pacific, and selected regions can enter Japan without obtaining a visa for short-term visits.
Visa-exempt visitors are generally permitted to engage in activities such as:
Tourism and sightseeing
Attending conferences, seminars, and exhibitions
Business meetings and networking events
Visiting friends and relatives
The permitted length of stay depends on nationality and immigration approval upon arrival.
