Speech Title : Planetary Health, Emerging Environmental Health Challenges, and Coastal Pollution in ASEAN-5: The Critical Role of Continuous Ecological-Health Risk Assessments of Potentially Toxic Metals for Sustainable Seafood, Public Health, and Ecosystem Resilience
Prof. Yap has been working as a full professor at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) since 2021. Prof. Yap has been an academician for more than 22 years at UPM and 27 years as a researcher. Prof Yap has successfully supervised more than 100 undergraduates, 37 postgraduate students, and two international postdoctoral fellows from Saudi Arabia and Nigeria in the fields of ecotoxicology, environmental biology, environmental sciences, water quality and ecotoxicological genetics. Prof. Yap has published more than 400 papers in refereed academic journals, 7 books (three published in NOVA Science Publishers, USA) and 38 book chapters. Until May 2026, 301 of them have been indexed in Elsevier’s Scopus with an H-index of 40 (>5053 citations). Prof Yap has also been invited as an honorary Editorial Board member for more than 50 international academic journals. Prof Yap has been an invited visiting researcher at National lnstitute of Environmental Studies, Tsukuba (Japan). Nationally, Prof Yap has been officially appointed as an Adjunct Professor at the INTI International University Malaysia since 2022. Internationally, Prof. Yap has been officially appointed as a Visiting Professor at Kobe University until 2024 (Japan). Now, he has been appointed as a Research Fellow at Kobe University starting April 2024.
