Visa Requirement for Foreigners

All foreign nationals must have a valid visa to enter India, including visitors to Goa. You cannot board a flight to Goa without a proper visa or ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization). Goa Tourism


Types of Visas Available

e-Visa Categories

India offers an e-Visa system that’s fast and mostly online. Common types include:

  • e-Tourist Visa – for leisure and sightseeing
  • e-Business Visa – for business activities
  • e-Medical Visa – for medical treatment

How to Apply (e-Visa)

  1. Visit the official portal at the Indian government’s e-visa site (indianvisaonline.gov.in) to apply. Indian Visa Online

  4. Receive ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) by email — print it and carry with your passport for travel. Goa Tourism

e-Visas are usually processed within a few days — but apply at least 4 days before travel to avoid issues. Goa Tourism


International Entry Points for e-Visa Holders

Foreigners with e-visas can enter India through designated international airports and seaports. Goa’s Manohar International Airport (MIA) at Mopa/Panjim is now an authorized immigration check post for e-visa holders — so you can fly direct to Goa with an e-Visa. Business Standard+1

They can also enter through other major airports or seaports of India (like Mumbai, Cochin, etc.) before traveling onward to Goa. Indian Immigration Services Team


Visa Fees

Fees vary by nationality and visa type/duration — generally:

  • 30-day e-Tourist Visa
  • 1-year or 5-year multi-entry e-Tourist Visa

Duration and Extensions

  • Tourist visas typically allow a stay of up to 180 days per visit (even if the visa validity is longer). Goa Tourism
  • e-Tourist Visas tend to be valid for 30 days (double entry) or longer depending on category. Goa Tourism
  • Extension of tourist visa is generally not permitted except in emergencies; special applications through immigration authorities may be required. Goa Police

Registration in Goa

If your visa validity is longer than 180 days, you must register with the Foreigners Registration Officer (FRO) within 14 days of arrival in Goa. This rule applies if you plan a long-stay (e.g., employment, study, long-term residence). Goa Tourism+1
