Speech Title : From Marine Waste to High-Value Biomolecules: An Integrated Circular Blue Economy Approach within the WASTE2TASTE Project
Alessio Marrone is a marine biologist at the Oceanography Malta Research Group (OMRG), University of Malta, and completing his PhD in Marine Sciences. His research focuses on the ecology, conservation, and management of Mediterranean marine ecosystems, with particular expertise in Posidonia oceanica seagrass meadows, their associated biological communities, and the impacts of human activities on protected habitats. His work combines field surveys, ecological monitoring, and applied research to support evidence-based marine conservation and sustainable management. Alongside his scientific research, Alessio is an award-winning underwater photographer, using imagery to communicate marine biodiversity and inspire greater appreciation of the Mediterranean's underwater ecosystems.
